About Me

My name is Matthew Scott. I’m a senior at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vermont. At school, I spend a great deal of my time performing. You may have seen me in Winter Concerts, PRIMS Concerts, Expos, Showcases, Pippin, RENT, Clue, and more. I also enjoy working with the Environmental club and Global Citizenship club. Outside of school, I spend my time practicing and studying music, baking, and gardening. Next year, I will be studying music education at the Ithaca College School of Music. In terms of gardening, I’ve developed a particular fondness for native plants and their many benefits for our local ecosystem. While I’ve tried to grow plants before, my time has generally been very limited. However, with senior year being put to an abrupt end, I’ve found myself with a surplus of time. Along with many other students, I’m grateful for my health and my family’s health, but have struggled to cope with the losses: performances, friends, celebrations, and most notably, graduation. To fill voids both emotionally and in my schedule, I made the last minute (and somewhat impulsive) decision to up my seed starting game from a few perennials to nearly five dozen different species. Spending time performing a hands on task and nurturing new life has proved very cathartic for me, and while we all deal with the new day to day challenges, I have something to look forward to and to entertain myself with. I’m hoping that others will be able to subdue their own emotional turmoil with the many physical and psychological benefits gardening holds.
